ABOUT

Studio view of Noémie Kirscher

Noémie Kirscher (b. 2001), lives and works in Stockholm, Sweden.

My work is rooted in my experience of growing up on Saint Barthélemy, a small island in the French Caribbean. The paintings emerge from fragments of childhood memories and colours drawn from oxidised patterns and surfaces encountered in daily life. These landscapes are neither fully real nor fully imagined.

They are informed by the longing for a place that is no longer accessible, because it only existed through the lens of a particular time. Painting allows me to revisit these experiences and transform them into a contemplative space. The raw linen, rich earthy colour palette and translucent layers of paint create a low-lit but vibrant atmosphere, reminiscent of twilight, a moment of heightened imagination and reflection.
